I'm Back.

1 min read
Hello Deviantart.

I mentioned in my last update that it would be a year... turns out to be almost 2!  What's been happening in all this time?  In May last year happily separated from the Navy and left Japan.  Instead of holding to my plan of going straight back to school, I decided to use the money I'd saved to take my camera and travel the world.  And traveled I have.  I started in Ireland and made my way over land all the way to Istanbul before flying out to Bangkok to start on Southeast Asia.  I ended up on a small island in the Gulf of Thailand called Koh Tao where I've been for the past 3 months working in underwater filming after getting back into diving.  I have hundreds of photos to upload as I have been working on my photography the whole way.  Stay tuned and do let me know what you think once they start coming up.

Bait and Switch

2 min read
It seems every update to this comes twice as late as the last. 3 months, now 6 months...  I guess you'll hear from me in about a year after this.

Most of my time updating anything is spent on my website or emailing people. Since the emails to my closest friends have been known to reach into 1000 word territory without breaking a sweat (with a record high of 3530 words), I usually don't feel like writing much of anything else afterword.

In my last post I was contemplating trying to do commissions, but since I got a whopping 1 whole response on that its defiantely a"nevermind". Its my own fault I suppose, talking about drawing commissions when all I submit anymore are photos. Come to think of it, I pulled a total bait and switch on everyone there.  I came in with drawings and thats how I got most of my watchers and now you're bombarded with almost nothing but photos.  No wonder I don't get a lot of response. :p

The real truth is that I enjoy photography much more than I do drawing, inking or coloring something.  I like being out walking the streets with my camera as opposed to behind a desk or a computer (even though that's still involved). I believe we all see the world in our own different little ways and the only way I know how to share mine is with a lens. And I love doing it. Its a shame I'm not good enough at it to do anything professionally.  And even if I was its so competitive that I probably wouldn't get anywhere. Sadness.

However, a couple of friends expressed interest in having prints of some of my photos. Is there any other such interest around these parts?  If so I could start looking into printing some things.

I'm out, take it easy.

Yeesh,

3 months without an entry into this thing.   Thats gotta be a new personal record.  I could blame it on any number of things, but its really just severe laziness.

Somewhere during that time the idea of commissions somehow forced its way into my head.  And rather rudely, might I add.  I guess the question, then, would be:  If I started doing limited commissions would anyone even be slightly interested?  Don't get excited or anything its still nothing definate.  I'd have to open up a paypal account etc etc etc.  And there's always the problem of my famous methods of procrastination.  Who knows... maybe.

I recently updated my own site (see above) with a lot of collaborations which I don't usually put here.  If I submit a picture I didn't color or draw I feel like I'm taking credit for something I didn't do so...  there they stay.

Anyways I'll drop by later with something more lengthly.

Howdy,

Inactivity is just abound around these parts... however if you'll direct your attention up and slightly to the left you'll notice that I now have a website.  I've spent the last couple weeks throwing it together and its been quite the learning experience.  Its the first website I've ever constructed and I'm suprised to find that it was less of a hassle than I thought it would be.  Make no mistake, there was frustration, but not as much as I would have expected from such an endeavour.  In fact I dare say it was even enjoyable at times.

anyway the site is here: www.cappslock.com

Other than that there's really nothing going on around here.  Well, nothing worth talking about anyway.  But, now that the site's done I should have time to finish some other things scattered around on my table.  Until then... Keep it easy,

Rainy

2 min read
Well the test is done, I'm glad to have that off my back.  That is, until I find out how I did late November...

Things are back to their usual grind and the second rainy season of the year has just started.  This area of Japan has 2 "rainy" seasons.  Thats where it clouds up and rains pretty steadily for about a month straight.  There's one around June and one around October.  I'm not complaining though I love the rain.  The sight, sound, smell...  I find the whole thing very soothing and having it all month is almost like a treat to me.  It does make surf trips a bit more of a hassle but, oh well.

Its actually starting to get a bit cool for it anyway.  I suppose if dropped some cash on a wetsuit I could go year around, but I'm still debating about that.  I already have a winter hobby... Snowblades.  Or sledboards or snow dogs or big foots... they have a lot of different names and nobody seems to be settled on one yet.  I just use snowblade because it seems like the most accurate description.  If you ski you've probably seen them around, they're the little short skis (about 2 1/2 to 3 feet).  I can't wait to hit Nagano this winter.

Art-wise I'm in a bit of a slump.  When you see more photography than drawings thats usually a sign.  I'll break out of it eventually though...  Anyway I gotta run, y'all take it easy.
